Mountain View Square, Rustendburg, South Africa: Eva-Tech Decorative Balusters,

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Changing the outlook of Mountain View Square
Mountain View Square, formerly Wall Street Mall in Rustenburg, has a beautiful new look, designed to entice patrons and traders to enjoy the revitalized facility.

The former industrial-looking Wall Street Mall was an uninviting and imposing steel structure with concrete columns and red bricks in a conventional block shape. Not only was the building outdated, but it was also unappealing and difficult to navigate. When the anchor tenant moved out, the property owners decided to revamp the centre in line with contemporary building design trends to attract new high-end tenants and improve the overall visitor experience.

NATURAL TONES AND TEXTURES

Architect Maaike de Beer of BGQS Consulting was commissioned to design a better flowing, and more inviting facility guaranteed to appeal to an assortment of upmarket tenants, traders, and patrons. Mountain View Square accommodates the Medhuys Medical Centre, Nate Optometrist and Local Choice Pharmacy, as well as an upmarket Checkers grocery store and liquor outlet, dining and fast-food establishments, amongst an array of convenience stores.

De Beer’s vision was to create a retail complex with a soft and fresh façade in natural wooden tones and textures, featuring lush landscaping and gardens to complement the views of the Magaliesberg Mountain Range.

ENDURING EVA-LAST

De Beer selected Eva-Last’s durable, decorative bamboo composites to achieve this vision. The light, fade resistant nature of Eva-tech composite creates a soft, natural palette that was used to cover existing building materials, reducing the need for major structural alterations.

The architect specified the subtle wood-look profiles of Eva-tech cladding in the warm wood look shade of Savannah to soften the existing hard exterior and add an organic, natural feel to the façade, ceilings, and canopies of the entire complex.

The old entrance to the now premium grocery store, Checkers, was recessed beneath a decorative wood-look soffit ceiling with geometric LED lighting. Lightweight, brushed Eva-tech composite profiles were easily installed overhead to create a decorative, slatted ceiling. The LED strip lighting was thoughtfully placed to illuminate and brighten the area whilst also enhancing the decorative nature of the ceiling.

Additionally, Eva-tech balusters were installed vertically on the exterior façade of the complex to further add visual appeal to the entrance to welcome patrons to Mountain View Square. The castellated wood-look appearance, a modern departure from solid surfaces or harder materials such as stone or tiles, is effectively used as functional area dividers.

Store signage boards were affixed to the cladded canopies around the perimeter of the complex allowing the signage to do its functional job without conflicting with the muted tones of the natural wood look balusters that convey the soft, inviting ambience intended by the architect for this centre.

Specifying Eva-tech balusters ensures a low-maintenance, degradation free, and weather resistant exterior designed to withstand the wear and tear of heavy traffic, and the general demands of a busy commercial retail environment. The eco-friendly nature of Eva-tech bamboo composite with its realistic timber texture ensures Mountain View Square will look good for years to come.

KEY INFLUENCER QUOTE

‘’Eva-Last’s durable and decorative bamboo composite balustrades add a natural timber touch to tone down and soften harsh building materials. I just love the Savannah colour and it is ideal for introducing a more natural aesthetic while still meeting all the performance requirements of commercial applications,” said Maaike de Beer of BGQS Consulting.
